Neonatology
Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill or premature newborn.
Sometimes, babies are born with a birth defect or illness that requires specialised care, or they may be born before the due date, giving them less time to develop in the womb. In that case, important organs like the baby’s heart, lungs, stomach or their metabolism may not be developed enough to function without special help.
At Prachi Hospital, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides care for babies after birth who need special attention. Physicians, nurses and support staff who work in the NICU are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. .Parents are encouraged to be active members of the team that takes care of their infant while in our unit.
Our nurses understand the unique medical needs of infants and can teach parents to understand how best to care for their babies.
